Chocolate Marbled Banana Bread

This is a whole new twist on an old favorite. Although it's optional, I would recommend the chocolate ganache on this banana bread. Its a wonderful, moist chocolate cake/bread loaded with lovely banana flavor!This great recipe was inspired by Give Recipe and the photos are courtesy Dust Jacket Attic.


  • 1/cup  dark chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup  butter, at room temperature
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3 very ripe bananas, mashed (1 and ½ cup)
  • 2 eggs, at room temperature
  • 1/3 cup plain, Balkan style yogurt
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • ganache:
  • ¼ cup dark chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup heavy cream


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Melt chocolate chips in a heat safe bowl over boiling water and let it cool down.
  3. Mix sugar and butter with an electric mixer until it’s crumbly.
  4. Add in mashed bananas and mix well.
  5. Add eggs, one each time and mix.
  6. Stir in yogurt and mix until combined well.
  7. Mix flour, cinnamon and baking soda in a separate bowl and combine it with the wet ingredients.
  8. Take 1 cup of the batter and mix it with melted chocolate.
  9. Line your pan with parchment paper and pour the batter into it.
  10. Pour the chocolate batter over it and swirl gently into the batter with a fork.
  11. Bake it for 1 hour and 15 minutes and cool completely.
  12. Melt chocolate chips in a heat proof bowl over boiling water.
  13. Heat heavy cream in a small saucepan until just about to boil and combine with the melted chocolate.
  14. Pour over the completely cooled banana bread and wait for about half an hour before serving.
