Spicy Carrots Recipe


This simple side dish is a great way to try out the Chinese 5 spice powder. This spice will add a new twist to an otherwise "ho hum" vegetable. Don't think that this must accompany an Asian entree, its also a great addition to your favorite turkey dinner or traditional  roast of pork. Photo courtesy kokopaleo.

Spicy Carrots Ingredients:

3 cups carrots cut on the diagonal
3/4 cup water
2 tbl soy sauce (Tamari)
2 tbl brown sugar
2 tbl butter
1 generous tsp Chinese 5 spice powder

 Saute the carrots, 5 spice powder and butter in the fry pan on low to medium heat until well blended. Add the water, Tamari and brown sugar. Bring to a boil. Lower the heat. Place the lid on your pan and simmer until the carrots are tender. Remove the lid and turn the heat up. Cook while stirring until the extra liquid is cooked away and the sauce is thickened.
